Getting the smile of your dreams shouldn’t be a challenge. One of the ways that we help you achieve that beautiful smile is to straighten your teeth with a clear aligner system called Invisalign. So many people love this method because it is hardly noticeable to friends, family and coworkers. Unlike cumbersome traditional metal brackets, Invisalign simplifies eating, brushing and flossing since the clear aligner trays are removable. The benefits of straighter teeth go beyond a beautiful, more confident smile. Do you have some problem areas where it is difficult to floss and brush due to the way the teeth overlap each other? Teeth with less crowding are also easier to maintain with regular brushing and flossing. This reduces the likelihood of developing gingivitis, periodontitis, bone loss, or tooth decay. You are never too old to have the smile you’ve always wanted. It may be that you had metal braces as a child and stopped wearing your retainer, leading to tooth movement over time. Maybe you never had the option of braces in the past and are now ready to tackle the crowding that has bothered you for years. It’s possible that you have just noticed some slight tooth movement and wish to treat it before it worsens. Some orthodontic treatment is recommended prior to more esthetic phases of treatment, such as veneers or implants, for a more esthetic outcome. Whatever your reasons, the Invisalign system could be an easy option for you. The team at West Suburban Oral Health Care in Warrenville, Illinois is here to book your appointment to get started now with an Invisalign consultation.

How does Invisalign® work?

Invisalign involves wearing a series of removable clear aligner trays that are custom designed for your teeth. A clear aligner is worn for1-2 weeks before switching to the next tray to allow for gradual and continuous movement of your teeth. For optimal results in the shortest length of time, aligners are worn between 20-22 hours per day. The number of trays that are required to achieve the desired smile is dependent on the amount and type of tooth movement that is warranted.

Depending on the degree of tooth movement that is required to create the straightened teeth and whether or not you present with any complex issues, such as an over- or underbite, your personalized plan can last anywhere from 1- 2 years on the average. Minor tooth movements may take as little as 10 weeks to 5 months. Once treatment is complete, it is essential to continue wearing retainers to maintain that beautiful smile. There are a few types of retainers that may be permanently fixed to your teeth or removable. That will be discussed with you and your dentist at the end of your active treatment.
